“Deadly tragedy on the road between Kainama and Eringeti: two people killed in an ambush attributed to Ugandan terrorists”

2023-10-20

A deadly ambush attributed to the Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF), Ugandan terrorists, took place on the road between Kainama and Eringeti, in the territory of Beni, linking the province of Ituri to that of North Kivu. The attack resulted in the death of two people and the burning of a vehicle.

According to the first testimonies of the president of local civil society, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Thursday October 19, 2023, in the village of Manzati. A car was completely destroyed by the flames. Of the four passengers on board, two were killed while the other two managed to escape and ended up about 8 kilometers from the center of Kainama. The involvement of the ADF in this crime is beyond doubt, according to Jonas Bin Kasumba, president of the citizen organization.

The presence of a camp of this militia in the region has been reported, prompting a request for intensification of combat patrols by joint FARDC-UPDF forces to neutralize these terrorists.

This road has become the main axis used by vehicles since 2022, due to abuses perpetrated by the ADF on the Komanda-Luna axis, reserved for heavy goods vehicles.

This new tragic incident once again highlights the persistent threat posed by armed groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The civilian population continues to be victims of violence and disruption caused by these attacks, highlighting the need for an effective and coordinated response by security forces to ensure the safety of residents in the region.
