“The historic agreement for the electrification of rural and peri-urban areas in Kongo Central opens the way to unprecedented economic and social development”

Agreement to promote the electrification of rural and peri-urban areas in Kongo Central

The Kongo Central Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIK) and the National Agency for Electricity and Energy Services in Rural and Peri-Urban Areas (ANSER) recently signed an agreement aimed at promoting the electrification of rural and peri-urban areas. in the Kongo Central province.

The CCIK, as representative of the private sector in the region, wishes to expand its economic activities by including the energy sector in its portfolio. According to the president of the CCIK, Felly Samuna, development cannot happen without energy. It also highlights the importance of private sector participation in the electricity sector, particularly with the liberalization of the sector. In collaboration with the governor of Kongo Central province, the CCIK plans to create a provincial electricity production and distribution company.

For its part, ANSER is committed to supporting private initiatives in rural and peri-urban electrification. Its deputy general director, Damien Twambilangana, underlines the importance of supporting private investors to achieve the objectives set in terms of electrification and household connectivity. ANSER notably offers administrative and financial support to enable electrification projects to be carried out.

The Democratic Republic of Congo currently has very low electricity service penetration rates, with only 3% in rural areas and 30% in urban areas. To improve this situation, the development of private initiatives is essential. By allowing an increase in electrification capacity in rural and peri-urban areas, this will promote the economic and social development of the region.

This agreement between the CCIK and ANSER therefore marks an important step forward in the promotion of electrification in Kongo Central. By encouraging the involvement of the private sector and offering concrete support, it will help overcome the obstacles linked to access to electricity in the most remote areas.
