Training of women candidates for elections in Mbuji-Mayi, Kasaï-Oriental
In view of the next general elections which will be held in a few months, more than 30 women candidates from Mbuji-Mayi, in the province of Kasaï-Oriental in the Democratic Republic of Congo, were recently trained on the development of a campaign plan electoral. This initiative, set up by the NGO National Dynamics of Women Candidates (DYNAFEC) with financial support from UN-Women, aims to strengthen the skills of women involved in politics and prepare them as best as possible for their electoral campaign.
The two-day training allowed participants to learn the right attitudes to adopt during an electoral campaign, as well as public speaking techniques. They also received ideas on writing key campaign messages and political leadership.
According to the provincial coordinator of DYNAFEC in Kasai-Oriental, Nathalie Ndaya, this training is of great importance: “We observed on the ground that women were not really dynamic during electoral campaigns. This is why we organized this training to empower them and give them the necessary tools to succeed in their campaign.”
During the training session, several themes were covered, such as communication, formulation of campaign messages and leadership. These essential skills will allow women candidates to make their voices heard and stand out in a political landscape often dominated by men.
This initiative comes at a crucial time, a few months before the general elections in the DRC. It demonstrates the importance given to the participation of women in political life and the desire to support them in their approach.
By training these women candidates and strengthening their skills, DYNAFEC and UN-Women contribute to promoting gender equality and encouraging greater representation of women in political bodies. It is essential to give women the opportunity to actively engage in politics, make their voices heard and contribute to decisions that shape the future of their country.
This training is an important step towards the empowerment of women and the construction of a more egalitarian society. Hopefully, the knowledge and skills gained from this session will enable women candidates to run dynamic election campaigns, put their ideas forward, and create real change in their communities.
