The relocation of the match between TP Mazembe and Espérance Sportive de Tunis has sparked many reactions in recent days. Indeed, the Congolese government, through the voice of the spokesperson and Minister of Communication Patrick Muyaya, spoke on this matter during the Briefing of October 16, 2023. The reason for this relocation would be the blocking of the equipment necessary for the coverage of the match.
According to the spokesperson, the government was contacted late by the FECOFA standardization committee regarding the request for removal of materials, while the decision to relocate had already been taken by CAF. Faced with this situation, the government finds itself unable to intervene and take measures to resolve the problem.
Patrick Muyaya also stressed that the government has no interest in opposing a sports team like TP Mazembe, which contributes to the promotion of youth and sports competition in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He recalled that during the organization of the Games of La Francophonie, the government had supported the event despite some difficulties. In addition, he highlighted the fact that the President of the Republic often goes to the stadium to support the national team, proof of the importance given to sport in the country.
The minister called for putting aside political considerations and focusing on administrative issues that need to be resolved. He stressed that the responsibility for this situation lies with FECOFA and CAF, who did not act in time to request the removal of the materials necessary for the match.
In conclusion, it is important to distinguish sporting issues from political issues. The Congolese government is calling for a political truce and a focus on administrative issues in order to resolve these kinds of problems in the future.
