Development of drinking water sources in Banalia (Tshopo) by the Minister of the Environment, Eve Bazaiba
In a laudable gesture, the Minister of the Environment, Eve Bazaiba, granted a sum of 3,000 USD for the development of 4 drinking water sources in Banalia, in the province of Tshopo. This decision follows the alert launched by the head doctor of the Banalia health zone, Dr Patrick Mbenga, on the presence of unclean water and the risk of spread of water-borne diseases in the region.
The allocated fund will be used to carry out the necessary works, such as excavation, drainage, masonry and water catchment. These efforts aim to guarantee access to quality drinking water for the inhabitants of Banalia, and thus significantly reduce the rate of water-borne diseases in the region.
Dr Patrick Mbenga, chief medical officer of the Banalia health zone, welcomed this saving initiative by the Minister of the Environment. According to him, the establishment of these drinking water sources will help reduce cases of diarrhea, which are responsible for significant mortality among children under 5 years old.
For his part, Didier Maindo, president of Banalia civil society, is committed to mobilizing the local population to support the realization of this project. He emphasizes the importance of raising community awareness and enabling their active participation by providing materials such as sand, gravel and construction materials.
This action to improve access to drinking water in Banalia demonstrates the Congolese government’s commitment to promoting the well-being of populations and combating health problems linked to water quality. . Hopefully this initiative serves as an example and encourages other managers to invest in similar projects. In this way, we will be able to improve the quality of life of all citizens and prevent many preventable diseases.
