Vaccination against poliomyelitis: A second phase of campaign launched in Butembo

The second phase of the polio vaccination campaign was launched this Wednesday, October 11, 2023 in Butembo, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Under the aegis of the Expanded Immunization Program (EPI) of the Ministry of Health, this campaign aims to protect children from all the dangers of this devastating disease.

Poliomyelitis is a contagious disease that can cause serious infections of the nervous system and lead to paralysis. It mainly affects young children and can have devastating consequences for their entire lives. This is why it is essential to strengthen collective immunity by vaccinating children from an early age.

The second phase vaccination campaign aims to reach a total of 924,824 children aged 0 to 59 months in the Butembo Provincial Health Division. Teams of vaccinators will go door to door to administer the necessary doses and ensure the protection of children.

The mayor of Butembo, Mowa Baeki Telly Roger, underlined the importance of this campaign by emphasizing the serious consequences of polio. He called on all parents and caregivers to welcome the teams of vaccinators and actively participate in this vital public health initiative.

The vaccination campaign will take place over a period of three days, from Thursday October 12 to Saturday October 14. Additional days will also be provided to collect children who could not be vaccinated during this period.

Polio remains a serious threat in many countries, and it is essential to continue vaccination campaigns to eradicate this disease once and for all. By working together and ensuring the active participation of communities, it is possible to end this threat and protect children from polio.

The Democratic Republic of Congo faces many public health challenges, but through initiatives such as this vaccination campaign, significant progress can be made in the fight against vaccine-preventable diseases.

In conclusion, the second phase of the polio vaccination campaign in Butembo is a crucial step in protecting children against this devastating disease. The active participation of parents and communities is essential to ensure the success of this initiative and ensure a better future for children in the region.
