Marie Josée IFOKU: A promising female candidate for the Congolese presidential election
Marie Josée IFOKU, president of the Alliance of Elites for a New Congo (AENC), submitted her candidacy for the presidential election to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). Engaged in the race for the supreme office for the second time after her candidacy in 2018, she becomes the first woman to run for this position in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
During her candidacy, Marie Josée IFOKU was received by the president of the CENI, Denis KADIMA KAZADI, to discuss the electoral process and the challenges of the next elections scheduled for December 2023. She describes this system as a form of predation in which the Congolese people are considered prey by the leaders. Her vision of kombolization is based on five points that she will develop later.
During her interview with the president of the CENI, Marie Josée IFOKU expressed her confidence in the ability of the institution to ensure fair and transparent elections. She offered her support and commitment to a more effective CENI in order to put an end to the legitimacy crises that marked previous electoral cycles.
The candidacy of Marie Josée IFOKU represents an important step in the emancipation of women in politics in the Democratic Republic of Congo. His determination to change political practices and bring a vision of rupture could appeal to many voters who aspire to renewal in the country.
