Launch of the new collection of caricatures “Fin de course” by Congolese artist Kash at the National Museum of the DRC
The National Museum of the DRC was the scene of the launch of the latest collection of caricatures entitled “Fin de course” by the Congolese artist, Thembo Muhindo Kashauri, better known as Kash. This album, which is the artist’s fourth as a press cartoonist, brings together his political drawings with the aim of depicting current political events and the little foibles of Congolese actors.
“End of race” addresses various themes such as the death of Étienne Tshisekedi, insecurity in the east of the country and the reign of Joseph Kabila. Kash’s drawings are a mixture of humor and political criticism, using the art of caricature to expose the abuses and weaknesses of politicians. The work also offers a look at Congolese political history between 2012 and 2018, illustrating the significant events of this period.
The collection is divided into seven chapters, introduced by a text from the author himself, which provides keys to understanding the title and its artistic intention. Professor Hilaire Mbiye, during his detailed reading, emphasizes that Kash’s work goes beyond simple satire, it also constitutes an instrument of intentional communication in the context of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It highlights the concerns, worries and discouragements of the author, while reflecting the aspirations and sufferings of the Congolese people.
Kash, considered the pioneer of political caricature in the DRC, uses his freedom of creation and expression to convey a strong message. His drawings have delighted readers for more than thirty years and have earned him numerous awards, both nationally and internationally. He has also exhibited his works in many countries, thus promoting Congolese artistic wealth throughout the world.
Alongside the launch of his collection, Kash also presented the prizes for the “Draw Me Peace” competition, thus illustrating his commitment to promoting peace and raising awareness through art.
In conclusion, the collection of caricatures “Fin de course” by the Congolese artist Kash is an immersion in Congolese political news, offering a critical and humorous look at the events that have marked the country. With his undeniable talent and creative freedom, Kash continues to prove that caricature is a powerful way to denounce abuse and make the public think.
