Electoral duel in Ecuador: Gonzalez and Noboa vie for the presidency in a country plagued by violence and drug trafficking

Electoral duel in Ecuador: Luisa Gonzalez and Daniel Noboa face each other for the second round of the presidential election

Ecuador’s political landscape is in turmoil as socialist candidate Luisa Gonzalez and liberal candidate Daniel Noboa prepare to face off in the second round of the presidential election. This close duel highlights the challenges facing the country, such as violence and drug trafficking.

Nearly 13.4 million voters are expected to vote on Sunday, in a country gripped by an unprecedented wave of violence. Election security will be ensured by nearly 100,000 soldiers and police deployed throughout the country.

Luisa Gonzalez, socialist lawyer and heir to former President Rafael Correa, and Daniel Noboa, son of an influential businessman, are competing to become the next president of Ecuador. If Gonzalez is elected, she will become the first woman to lead the country, while Noboa could become the youngest president in its modern history.

The country faces many problems, such as violence, insecurity and drug trafficking. Voters hope that the next president will be able to effectively combat these scourges and put the country back on the path to development.

The two candidates made numerous promises during their electoral campaign, dangling a “new Ecuador” and thousands of jobs. However, the new president will have little time to deliver on these promises, with his term scheduled to run until 2025.

The country also faces endemic corruption and weakened institutions. In addition, Ecuador is facing an increase in violence linked to organized crime and drug trafficking. According to the Ecuadorian Organized Crime Observatory, more than 3,600 people have been murdered since the start of the year.

The candidates each have their own vision for combating these problems. Noboa proposes the creation of a large intelligence agency, while Gonzalez focuses on social programs to prevent delinquency. Both candidates agree on the need to militarize prisons, ports and borders.

The duel between Gonzalez and Noboa promises to be very close, according to the latest polls. The political polarization between Gonzalez’s supporters, supported by former President Correa, and those of Noboa further complicates this election.

Whatever the outcome, Ecuador’s new president will face immense challenges and must find effective solutions to restore the country. Ecuador needs a strong and visionary leader to emerge from this period of crisis and pave the way for a better future.
