“Training of agricultural ministers and inspectors for sustainable agriculture in the DRC: strengthening skills and monitoring of the agricultural production recovery plan”

Training of ministers and inspectors of agriculture on monitoring and evaluation of the agricultural production recovery plan

As the agricultural sector is of paramount importance to the economic and social development of a country, it is essential to ensure its growth and resilience. It is with this in mind that the training of ministers and inspectors of agriculture from 26 provinces is taking place, which will take place from October 12 to 14 in Kinshasa. The aim of this initiative launched by the Ministry of Agriculture is to strengthen the skills and knowledge of key stakeholders in order to ensure effective monitoring, evaluation and execution of the agricultural production recovery plan.

Under the theme of “Interministerial gateway for sustainable agricultural production in the DRC”, this three-day forum will bring together several experts to discuss the efficiency and rationality in the use of agricultural seeds, chemical fertilizers and the establishment agricultural brigades across the country. This involves adopting a convergent approach to agriculture, with an emphasis on agricultural aggregation.

The Minister of Agriculture, José Mpanda, underlines the importance of this approach by declaring: “The option that we want to implement in the vision of the President of the Republic is that of agricultural aggregation, which covers the partnership contract public-private. It is essential to monitor and advise not only large investors, but also cooperatives, small producers and family farmers. Improved seeds are a strong driver of agricultural production.”

The training of agricultural ministers and inspectors will also be accompanied by concrete measures to support their work in the field. José Mpanda announces the provision of motorcycles to provincial, urban and territorial inspectors in order to facilitate their support of farmers and their monitoring of agricultural policies. He emphasizes the importance of this monitoring by declaring: “The President of the Republic wants us to support farmers in the field. It is essential to reestablish the system of agricultural monitors.”

This training promises to be an important step towards sustainable and prosperous agriculture in the Democratic Republic of Congo. By strengthening the skills of key players and adopting a collaborative approach, it is possible to boost agricultural production, improve yields and ensure food security for all. The future of Congolese agriculture is underway, and this training is a concrete testimony to it.
