Displaced people from Kwamouth, living in the town of Bandundu, organized a peaceful march on Wednesday October 11 to denounce their deplorable living conditions following the violence between the Teke and Yaka communities. These displaced people claim to be abandoned by the government and ask for assistance from the authorities to improve their situation.
The representative of the displaced declared during this march: “We decided to do this march today because we are facing problems that are beyond our control, in particular that of deaths. We have already recorded 69 deaths. Our suffering is immense and “We are not receiving any assistance from the authorities. We are asking the authorities to take care of our problems.”
These displaced people are also asking the authorities for the necessary financial means to be able to return to their villages of origin. They feel that they have been abandoned and hope that their grievances will be heard by the competent authorities.
In response to this march, the representative of the president of the provincial assembly of Kwilu promised to forward the grievances of the displaced to his hierarchy, so that appropriate measures can be taken to improve their situation.
This peaceful march of displaced people from Kwamouth highlights the distress and vulnerability of this population who had to flee inter-community violence. It is essential that the authorities take concrete measures to help these people and offer them decent living conditions. Solidarity and support for the displaced must be priorities to ensure their well-being and allow them to return to normal life in their villages of origin.
