Recent news tells us that the non-governmental organization Maniema United (MANU/NGO) has filed a complaint against the telecommunications companies Vodacom, Airtel and Orange. This complaint, filed with the public prosecutor’s office at the Maniema Court of Appeal, accuses these companies of fraud and deception towards consumers in the province.
According to the NGO, telecommunications companies provide poor quality connection, charge high prices and adopt abusive commercial practices. Faced with this unacceptable situation, Maniema United decided to take legal action to assert the rights of consumers in the province.
The NGO’s lawyer, Me Ngongo Amisi Jacques, explains that this complaint follows years of observation of the situation in the province of Maniema. He claims that the poor quality of the telecommunications network causes many victims and that companies make no effort to improve it.
Maniema United’s complaint is supported by a petition which has collected more than 2,000 signatures. This petition will soon be delivered to the governorate of Maniema, in order to support the NGO’s approach.
If the telecommunications companies are found guilty, they risk having to pay fines and damages. In addition, they may be forced to improve the quality of their services in order to meet consumer expectations.
This case highlights the legitimate concerns of consumers in the province of Maniema regarding the quality of the telecommunications network. It also underlines the importance of consumer vigilance and the action of NGOs to ensure their rights are respected.
It is essential that those involved in the telecommunications sector become aware of their responsibilities and act towards better quality of service. Consumers deserve to have a reliable connection, fair prices and transparent business practices. The complaint filed by Maniema United is a step in this direction, hopefully contributing to a significant improvement in the situation.
It is now the duty of the competent authorities to shed light on this matter and provide justice to injured consumers. Consumer confidence is essential for the proper functioning of the telecommunications sector and to promote the development of the digital economy in the province of Maniema.
The results of this complaint will therefore be eagerly awaited by consumers in the province, but also by all players in the telecommunications sector in the DRC. Hopefully, this will pave the way for concrete improvements to provide consumers with a better telecommunications experience.
