Training of electoral agents in the DRC: A step towards credible and transparent elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) recently launched the first series of training for members of polling and counting stations as well as members of local results compilation centers for the elections scheduled for 20 December 2023. This initiative aims to prepare around 200 CENI agents for the organization of electoral operations.

The training, which takes place at the CARITAS Congo headquarters in Kinshasa, is supervised by Denis Kadima, expert in electoral matters. It aims to ensure that agents are well prepared and equipped to carry out their tasks in a credible and professional manner for the benefit of the Congolese population.

The first phase of the training consists of a mid-term evaluation of the agents on the computer, supervised by Paul Muhindo, deputy rapporteur of the CENI. Muhindo insisted on the importance of this training to ensure the smooth running of the elections and to allow voters to feel confident in front of competent and professional agents.

The CENI is determined to organize credible, transparent and peaceful elections while respecting the constitutional deadline. To do this, it invests in the training of its agents, in order to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to carry out their mission in the field.

The training will take place in several phases in the 26 provinces of the country. The CENI has also set up an Electronic Voting Device (DEV) to facilitate the electoral process.

In conclusion, the training of electoral agents in the DRC constitutes an essential step in the preparation of the elections scheduled for December 20, 2023. It demonstrates the commitment of the CENI to guarantee credible and transparent elections, and to send agents to the field competent and professional. This initiative is a step towards more stable and legitimate political governance in the DRC.
