Title: “Free maternity: the Minister of Health ensures its effective implementation”
Introduction :
The Minister of Public Health, Samuel Roger Kamba, recently carried out an inspection visit to various health establishments to assess the implementation of the free maternity measure. This initiative follows the promise of the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, to make maternity services accessible to all. During his visit, the minister was able to see the commitment and efficiency of healthcare providers, although operational difficulties persist due to the massive influx of the population.
Commitment of healthcare providers and beneficiaries:
During his visit, the Minister of Health was able to enter into direct contact with care providers and beneficiaries of the maternity service. He said he was satisfied with their commitment and their effectiveness in implementing free maternity. This measure allows pregnant women to benefit from prenatal consultations, deliveries and cesarean sections at no additional cost. The doctor-director of the Kintambo Maternity Hospital, Brigitte Tupe, also called on the population and nursing staff to become more involved to guarantee the continued success of this initiative.
The results of free maternity:
Since the launch of the free maternity care measure, the Kintambo Maternity Center has supported a total of 560 prenatal consultations, 9 newborns, more than 40 cases of difficult deliveries and 51 cesarean sections. These figures show the positive impact of this measure on the health of pregnant women and newborns. Thanks to free maternity, these essential services are now accessible to all, thus contributing to the achievement of the national strategy for universal health coverage (UHC).
Conclusion :
The inspection visit by the Minister of Public Health, Samuel Roger Kamba, to various health establishments made it possible to assess the implementation of the free maternity measure. This initiative, resulting from the promise of the President of the Republic, aims to guarantee access to quality care during the perinatal period. Despite some operational difficulties, healthcare providers have demonstrated their commitment and effectiveness in caring for pregnant women. Free maternity services have already made it possible to offer consultations, deliveries and cesarean sections to a large number of beneficiaries. This measure constitutes an important step towards achieving universal health coverage in the DRC.
