Kasumbalesa Customs: a modernized border post to maximize state revenue
In his fight against customs fraud and smuggling, the President of the Republic Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo has demonstrated his determination to maximize state revenue under optimal conditions. It is with this in mind that an imposing building was constructed on the border of Kasumbalesa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This set of customs infrastructure includes a modern building of 2,600 square meters, equipped with all the equipment necessary for customs services. In addition to this, an 8-kilometer reinforced concrete bypass road, a cross-border corridor, bonded warehouses, two import-export parking lots capable of accommodating up to 1,500 trucks, as well as accommodation for customs officers have been developed. .
This modernization of the Kasumbalesa border post will allow greater efficiency in the processing of customs files and an acceleration of vehicle flows. Carried out with the own funds of the General Directorate of Customs and Excise (DGDA), this project is the result of a partnership with the Congolese company TRAFIGO SARL, managed by Magalie Kayitesa Raway.
Thanks to this system designed by TRAFIGO SARL, users of the Kasumbalesa border now have the possibility of paying crossing fees electronically. The DGDA receives in real time, via the ASYCUDA platform, payments for cross-border crossings, thus ensuring increased traceability and transparency of customs revenue.
Congolese entrepreneur Magalie Kayitesa Raway managed to set up a reliable and secure system, entirely Congolese, to maximize customs revenue at the Kasumbalesa post. As soon as it was implemented, this system enabled the DGDA to observe an average increase of 700 to 1,000% in its revenue. A dazzling success which testifies to the effectiveness of this anti-leak system.
By combining efficient tax and royalty traceability software, transparent procedures integrated into the banking system and a management policy focused on ethics and human resources training, this system offers a complete solution to ensure optimal mobilization of state resources. .
This project to modernize the Kasumbalesa customs post is a concrete example of the fight against fraud and the maximization of customs revenues in the sub-region. It also demonstrates President Tshisekedi’s commitment to promoting Congolese female entrepreneurship, by supporting initiatives such as that of Magalie Kayitesa Raway.
In conclusion, the modernization of the Kasumbalesa customs post is an important step towards optimizing the Congolese state’s revenue.. Thanks to this reliable and secure system put in place by TRAFIGO SARL, the DGDA is able to maximize customs revenue while ensuring transparent and efficient management of flows at the border. A success which should inspire other customs posts to follow this example of modernization and innovation.
