General Brice Oligui Nguema strengthens ties with heads of state of the sub-region during his visit to the Central African Republic

After overthrowing Ali Bongo Ondimba during the August 30 coup, General Brice Oligui Nguema, president of the transition in Gabon, continues his meetings with the heads of state of the sub-region. This time, he traveled to the Central African Republic where he met President Faustin-Archange Touadéra on October 4, 2023 in Bangui.

This visit is part of a process of normalization of relations between Gabon and other countries in the sub-region. Indeed, General Brice Oligui Nguema is aware of the importance of maintaining solid ties with his counterparts. He therefore wanted to meet the Gabonese diaspora living in the Central African Republic to assure them that their concerns would be taken into account and that solutions would be found.

During his visit, General Brice Oligui Nguema was welcomed by President Touadéra and members of the Central African government. A one-on-one meeting took place, followed by lunch. While the details of their discussion have not been disclosed, it is clear that several topics were discussed.

One of the points raised was the plea so that Gabon is not excluded from sub-regional organizations. Indeed, the country was suspended from the bodies of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) at the beginning of September. President Touadéra, as mediator of the Gabonese crisis, supported this request and sought to reestablish good relations between the new authorities in Libreville and the countries of the sub-region.

This visit to the Central African Republic follows those made to Equatorial Guinea and the Republic of Congo. General Brice Oligui Nguema continues his tour of neighboring heads of state to strengthen collaboration and bilateral understanding.

This series of meetings shows the commitment of Gabon’s transitional president to consolidate diplomatic relations and maintain regional stability. These exchanges with neighboring heads of state help restore trust and pave the way for fruitful cooperation.

The visit of General Brice Oligui Nguema to the Central African Republic is a further step towards the normalization of relations between Gabon and the countries of the sub-region. Let us hope that these diplomatic efforts will bear fruit and contribute to a peaceful and prosperous future for all.
