The Mgr Bellissima de Paida boarding school, a school educational establishment created by the Little Sisters of the Presentation of the Catholic diocese of Butembo-Beni, was once a place of welcome for many girls from different towns in the country. Unfortunately, it was forced to close its doors nine years ago due to insecurity in the Beni region.
Today, the Mgr Bellissima boarding school is a sad reflection of its glorious past. Overgrown by vegetation, the windows of the dormitories are broken and the walls are devoured by termites. This dilapidated situation reflects the lack of attention and maintenance from which the establishment has suffered over all these years.
For the teachers of the Muhani high school in Paida, who received the girls from the boarding school, its closure had significant consequences on the students’ education. Many of them came specially from this boarding school to study at high school. Following its closure, a decline in academic results was noted.
This is why Richard Ndungo Kombi, director of studies at Muhani high school, is appealing to the government to restore security in the Beni region and thus allow the reopening of the boarding school. The sisters would be willing to reopen this educational home if safety conditions were met.
The Mgr Bellissima boarding school in Paida has 20 dormitories, once full of young girls eager for knowledge and learning. The reopening of this boarding school would give many students a chance to continue their studies in suitable conditions.
It is therefore essential that the competent authorities take the necessary measures to restore security in the Beni region and revive the Mgr Bellissima boarding school. Thus, young girls will once again be able to benefit from a place of welcome and education conducive to their personal and academic development.
