“Women in politics: Uvira trains its candidates for unprecedented political empowerment in South Kivu”

Title: Training of women candidates in Uvira: a key step for the political empowerment of women in South Kivu

Introduction :
Democracy is constantly evolving and more and more women are entering the political arena to make their voices heard and defend their interests. In the town of Uvira, located in the province of South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, forty women candidates were recently trained on the conduct of the electoral campaign and the development of the social project. This initiative, supported by the NGO Genre active pour le développement (GAD) and the Coalition of Women Human Rights Defenders (CFDDH), aims to strengthen the political participation of women and promote their empowerment.

Development :
The training of women candidates in Uvira took place over two days and addressed several essential aspects of political life. Participants were instructed on how to communicate effectively in public, formulate a clear and mobilizing message, as well as mobilize their electorate. This training, supported by the international NGOs Protection International and 11.11.11, brought together female politicians from different backgrounds, whether they belong to the Sacred Union, the opposition or civil society.

The objective of this initiative is to give women the necessary tools so that they can play an active role in restoring peace in the eastern region of the DRC. It is about allowing them to fully engage in politics as a career, defending their party, its ideologies and its social project. For some participants, this represents something new, particularly in terms of political activism, but they are ready to adapt and move forward to contribute to the emergence of a new Congo and the stability of institutions.

Conclusion :
The training of women candidates in Uvira constitutes an important step in the promotion and empowerment of women on the political scene. By providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge, this initiative enables women to position themselves as leaders, capable of defending their interests and advancing their vision for society. This approach contributes to the construction of a more inclusive and egalitarian democracy, where women’s voices are fully heard and taken into account. Hopefully these women candidates will inspire other women to enter political life and actively contribute to building a better future for all.
