Social and economic development in the territory of Djugu in Ituri is at the heart of the concerns of the Lendu community. The president of this community, Paul Matata, expressed his wish to see the implementation of the ongoing Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration and Reintegration of Combatants Program (PDDRCS) accelerated by the government. According to him, this initiative would help deter militiamen and promote local progress.
In an interview with Radio Okapi, Paul Matata stressed that many militiamen had taken up arms again because they did not see the realization of the PDDRCS in Djugu. He estimates that if the development project planned as part of the program had been implemented, around 80% of the militiamen could have resumed legal economic activity, particularly in agriculture. This situation would have benefited the local population.
Unfortunately, the non-implementation of the PDDRCS led these militiamen to perpetrate attacks against the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) on RN 27. These regular ambushes cause significant loss of life and material damage. , endangering the safety of users of this road.
Paul Matata’s recommendation highlights the importance of local development and the reintegration of ex-combatants for the stability and progress of the region. The implementation of the PDDRCS would not only economically support former militiamen, but also deter other individuals from turning to armed violence.
It is crucial that the government reacts quickly to this request in order to meet the needs of the population of Djugu. The social and economic benefits of effective PDDRCS implementation cannot be underestimated. This would not only promote reconciliation and pacification of the region, but also create opportunities for sustainable development for all residents.
In conclusion, the president of the Lendu community of Djugu asks the government to put in place the Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration and Reintegration of Combatants Program as quickly as possible. This initiative is essential to support the social and economic development of the region, deter militiamen and create a climate of peace conducive to the advancement of all.
