In northern Mali, tensions persist and weapons continue to be talked about. This Saturday, the Malian Armed Forces carried out operations in the Kidal region, largely under the control of ex-rebels. These airstrikes aimed to neutralize terrorist groups that were planning attacks against the national army. Unfortunately, these actions resulted in the deaths of at least two people.
This intervention by the Malian army highlights the increase in clashes and attacks in the region, making the conflict more and more open in the north, west and center of the country. The ex-rebels, now grouped within the Permanent Strategic Framework (CSP), have also claimed responsibility for a recent attack against the army camp in Dioura, in the center of the country. In a press release, they announced that they had killed dozens of Malian forces and Wagner group mercenaries.
However, Malian authorities refuted these figures and claimed that the enemy had been rendered harmless, without giving precise figures. This discrepancy in results illustrates the complexity and confusion reigning on the ground, where the security situation remains precarious.
Mali has been facing a deep crisis for several years, marked by conflicts between different armed groups, terrorist attacks and a growing presence of jihadist groups. Despite the efforts made by the Malian government and peacekeeping forces, the situation remains fragile and instability persists in several regions of the country.
This new escalation of violence in northern Mali once again underlines the urgency of finding a political and lasting solution to this conflict. It is essential to promote dialogue, strengthen regional and international cooperation, and invest in the economic and social development of affected regions. Only a comprehensive approach can bring peace to this part of the country and guarantee the security of the populations.
