On the occasion of World Heart Day, celebrated each year on September 29, cardiologist Philippe Katchunga from Bukavu (South Kivu) wanted to raise awareness among the population on the importance of preventing heart disease. Indeed, cardiovascular diseases are among the leading causes of death worldwide, with nearly 17 million people dying from them each year.
According to Dr Katchunga, it is essential to raise awareness about these diseases in order to prevent their occurrence and reduce the mortality associated with them. To do this, he recommends avoiding risk factors such as excessive alcohol consumption, salt, fatty foods, and encourages adopting a healthy lifestyle by increasing physical activity and favoring a diet rich in fruits.
World Heart Day therefore offers a unique opportunity to promote the prevention of heart disease and highlight the importance of a healthy lifestyle to preserve heart health. By mobilizing collectively, it is possible to considerably reduce the number of deaths linked to cardiovascular diseases and improve everyone’s quality of life.
