Captain Ibrahim Traoré, head of state of Burkina Faso, gives a positive assessment of his policy, one year after taking power. During a press conference, he presented the actions taken during this year and stressed that security remains his top priority.
One of the important aspects of his policy was the strengthening of the Burkinabè armed forces. Captain Traoré admits to having underestimated the real capabilities of these forces, but claims to have taken actions to remedy this situation. A massive recruitment of soldiers and volunteers was carried out, with more than 11,000 new recruits in training. Once these soldiers are operational, the war against armed groups can truly begin.
The transitional president insists that securing the entire territory is essential before elections are held. He affirms that as long as the Burkinabè cannot travel safely to all regions, there will be no electoral process. For him, it is essential that each Burkinabe can choose their president and that candidates can campaign throughout the country.
On the external level, Captain Traoré announces that Burkinabè soldiers will intervene in Niger to counter armed terrorist groups, but also in the event of intervention by ECOWAS troops.
Despite the recent events which have shaken the country, the transitional president assures that there is no unease within the armed forces. He warns anyone who seeks to destabilize the country, affirming that there will no longer be tolerance towards those who oppose the fight against armed terrorist groups and imperialism.
In conclusion, a year after taking power, Captain Ibrahim Traoré affirms that his policy has made it possible to strengthen the Burkinabè armed forces and to put in place a strategy to fight against armed terrorist groups. Securing the territory remains its absolute priority before holding elections. He warns those who would seek to hinder the progress of the country, promising zero tolerance towards those who oppose his actions.
