A year ago, Captain Ibrahim Traoré took the reins of power in Burkina Faso. Since then, he has worked to implement a policy focused on security, the equipment of the armed forces and the development of the country. During a recent press conference, the president of the transition gave a positive assessment of his first year in power.
One of the key elements of Captain Traoré’s policy was to strengthen the capabilities of the Burkinabè army. According to him, the war against terrorism is still in its early stages, as it was essential to first equip the soldiers. Thus, more than 11,000 new recruits are in training, ready to join the front once ready. The transitional president insists that securing the entire territory is his top priority, and that there will be no elections before achieving this.
At the same time, Captain Traoré also placed emphasis on the economic development of the country. Partnerships have been established to diversify Burkina Faso’s sources of income, particularly in the agricultural sector. Production campaigns were launched and populations were resettled in their localities of origin.
On the external level, the president of the transition affirms that Burkinabè soldiers are ready to intervene in Niger to counter armed terrorist groups, as well as in the event of intervention by ECOWAS. He insists that the security of the region is a major concern for him.
Despite some recent events which have shaken the country, Captain Traoré assures that there is no unease within the armed forces. He warns those who would seek to destabilize the country, promising a zero tolerance policy and sanctions for offenders.
In summary, one year after taking power, Captain Ibrahim Traoré gives a positive assessment of his policy focused on security, the equipment of the armed forces and the economic development of Burkina Faso. He affirms that total security of the territory is essential before the elections are held, and warns those who would seek to destabilize the country.
