Collaboration Between Civilians and Military: A Major Challenge for Security
In a constantly evolving world, where terrorist threats persist, collaboration between civilians and military becomes increasingly crucial to ensure the security of our societies. It is with this in mind that more than three hundred inhabitants of the chiefdom of Watalinga, in the territory of Beni, were recently made aware of the importance of this collaboration.
This awareness project, entitled “Jiwe Langu Kwa Usalama wa Beni” (“my contribution to the restoration of peace in Beni”), was set up by the Watalinga Local Youth Council. Its objective is to strengthen collaboration between civilians and the military as part of operations against the ADF rebels. Indeed, the local population can play a key role in the fight against terrorism by providing valuable information to the armed forces.
To achieve this objective, concrete actions are put in place. Communication tools such as Motorolas are given to trackers, who volunteer to accompany the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) in their operations. Early warning sirens are also installed in the group, allowing rapid response in the event of an imminent threat. In addition, solar kits are distributed to supply energy to this equipment.
This initiative aims to respond to a request from the FARDC, which sought to involve the population more in their operations against terrorists. By creating this concept of “civil-military marriage”, a true partnership is formed, where everyone has a role to play in the security of the region. Raising awareness among the residents of Watalinga is a crucial step in informing and engaging the population in this collaboration.
This collaborative approach between civilians and military is not unique to the Beni region. In many countries, similar projects are being implemented to strengthen security and encourage the involvement of the population. This not only allows the armed forces to gain valuable support, but also creates bonds of trust between civilians and the military, thereby strengthening social cohesion.
In conclusion, collaboration between civil and military is a major issue to ensure security in a constantly evolving world. Awareness projects such as the one implemented in the Watalinga chiefdom make it possible to create a lasting partnership between the population and the armed forces, thus promoting a more effective fight against terrorist threats. It is important to continue to encourage and support such initiatives, because the security of our societies depends on them.
