“Captain Ibrahim Traoré: one year in power, a positive outcome for Burkina Faso”

A year after taking the reins of power, Captain Ibrahim Traoré gives a positive assessment of his policy in Burkina Faso. In a press conference, he highlighted the progress made in different areas such as security, equipment of the armed forces and economic development.

On the security front, the transitional president admitted to having underestimated the real capabilities of the Burkinabè armed forces in the face of the terrorist threat. He announced the training of 11,000 new recruits to strengthen the ranks of the army and fight more effectively against armed groups. Captain Ibrahim Traoré affirmed that the anti-terrorism war was still at the introductory stage and that ground operations would be launched once these new recruits were fully operational.

Regarding economic development, the transitional president stressed the importance of diversifying partnerships to stimulate growth and create jobs. He mentioned the launch of agricultural production campaigns to strengthen the country’s food security.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré also expressed the need to secure the entire territory before being able to organize elections. He said security remained his top priority and he would not allow elections to be held until Burkinabè were able to move freely throughout the country.

In the area of ​​international relations, the transitional president announced the participation of Burkinabè soldiers alongside Nigerien forces to fight against armed terrorist groups. He also affirmed that Burkinabè troops would intervene in the event of intervention by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Finally, Captain Ibrahim Traoré reaffirmed his determination to confront any attempt at destabilization. He promised zero tolerance towards those who oppose his policy of fighting against armed terrorist groups and imperialism.
