Deadly terrorist attacks hit Pakistan during religious events
In a merciless act of violence, two terrorist attacks rocked the province of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in western and northwestern Pakistan. The attacks came as Muslims celebrated the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, also known as Mawlid. The tragic toll stands at at least 57 dead and many injured.
The first attack took place during a religious procession in Mastung district, Balochistan province. As crowds gathered to commemorate the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, an explosion rang out, spreading terror and destruction. At least 52 people lost their lives in this senseless tragedy, leaving families and a community devastated.
Pakistani authorities quickly confirmed that the explosion was caused by “terrorist elements”. Unanimous condemnation was expressed by government officials, calling this act of terrorism a heinous and cowardly act.
The Mastung attack has not yet been claimed by a specific terrorist group, but it is part of a series of recent attacks by militant groups in western Pakistan in the run-up to the next scheduled elections. for January 2024.
Hours after the Mastung attack, another explosion shook the neighboring province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This time, a mosque was targeted, causing the death of at least five people and leading to the collapse of the roof of the building. Rescue teams are now working around the clock to save people trapped under the rubble.
