Inauguration of Adolphe Muzito as candidate of the Nouvel élan party in the presidential election in the DRC
During the extraordinary congress of the Nouvel élan political party, which was held on Friday September 29, 2023 in Kinshasa, the candidacy of Adolphe Muzito was officially nominated for the presidential election scheduled for next December. Former Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Muzito handily won the Nouvel élan primaries, outperforming five other candidates.
In his speech, Muzito presented his social project, structured around 25 points. Among the strong points of his program, he committed to devoting 5% of the national budget to the army and security services, in order to guarantee the defense and security of the Congolese territory. He also promised to build a separation wall between the DRC, Rwanda and Uganda.
It should be remembered that in 2018, Adolphe Muzito had already run for president under the label of the Union for Renewal and Prosperity (UREP). However, his candidacy was rejected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) due to a conflict of interest with the Unified Lumumbist Party (PALU), of which he was then a deputy. He was then definitively dismissed by the Constitutional Court for the same reasons.
In any case, the inauguration of Adolphe Muzito marks an important step in the race for the presidency in the DRC and arouses the attention of the Congolese population as well as political observers. The next few months will therefore be decisive to see if Muzito will succeed in realizing his social project and convincing voters to place their trust in him. To be followed closely.
