“Violence in North Kivu: the population of Nyiragongo calls for an end to clashes between armed groups to find peace and security”

Clashes between the armed groups APCLS and the UFDPC in North Kivu continue to sow insecurity and disarray among the inhabitants of the Nyiragongo territory. Since September 25, these two rival factions have been competing for control of the villages of Kanyaruchinya and Kanyamahoro, near Kibumba, a locality occupied by the M23 rebellion and the EAC force.

The displaced people who have found refuge in these villages live in constant fear of exchanges of fire and the violence caused by these clashes. They are asking the government to restore security to guarantee their well-being.

Unfortunately, the presence of multiple armed groups in the region contributes to instability and growing tensions. Some elements of the armed groups even prohibit residents from moving freely in the city, thus creating disputes and exacerbating security problems.

This already precarious situation is aggravated by the occupation of certain parts of Nyiragongo territory by the M23 rebellion for almost a year. This militia recently took up arms in response to the head of state’s communication to the UN, which fuels fears of an escalation of violence in the region.

Faced with this worrying situation, the local population is calling for armed groups to stay away from inhabited areas and withdraw into the mountains. This request is essential to ensure the safety of residents and restore calm in the region.

The Congolese government and security forces must take urgent measures to end these clashes and establish a climate of lasting peace and security. The population of Nyiragongo territory needs protection and support to rebuild their lives in optimal security conditions.

The resolution of these armed conflicts is essential to guarantee the well-being of the inhabitants and promote the socio-economic development of the region. It is also crucial to fight against impunity and promote justice in order to end the cycle of violence and instability that is hitting the population of North Kivu.

In conclusion, clashes between the armed groups APCLS and the UFDPC in North Kivu continue to cause suffering and insecurity among the population of Nyiragongo territory. It is urgent that concrete measures be taken to put an end to this violence and restore peace in the region. The protection of civilians and the promotion of justice are imperative to building a better future for all.
