“Uganda suspected of annexing the Busanza Territory in the DRC: A threat to national sovereignty and territorial integrity”

The Busanza Territory, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, finds itself at the heart of a territorial controversy with Uganda. Allegations of annexation of territory by Uganda have raised serious concerns among the local population and prompted provincial deputy Juvenal Munubo to approach the Congolese parliament to examine the matter.

According to eyewitnesses, Ugandan delegations have started to place new border markers in the Busanza region, extending several kilometers beyond the Congolese border. This alleged annexation of Congolese territory by Uganda calls into question the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the DRC.

Faced with this situation, MP Juvenal Munubo will table an oral question with debate in the Congolese parliament, addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He urges the Congolese government to promptly investigate these allegations and take the necessary measures to restore border boundaries in accordance with international law.

The Lucha citizen movement also expressed concern about this situation, warning of the potential consequences for the sovereignty of the DRC. They call on the Congolese people to mobilize to protect their endangered homeland.

This territorial dispute comes against a backdrop of tensions between the DRC and Uganda, particularly due to disagreements over the security situation in the Great Lakes region. In June 2022, the Congolese National Assembly suspended the ratification of agreements with Uganda, calling into question that country’s credibility as a partner for the DRC.

Among the recent agreements signed between the DRC and Uganda, it is worth mentioning that aimed at the construction and modernization of 1,182 kilometers of main road network linking the two countries. This situation highlights the importance of bilateral relations and raises questions about the reliability of foreign partners in the country’s development.

It is essential that the Congolese government takes this matter seriously and conducts a thorough investigation to establish the truth about this alleged annexation of Congolese territory by Uganda. Resolving this territorial dispute is crucial to preserving national sovereignty and guaranteeing the territorial integrity of the DRC.
