Fight against school bullying: a general mobilization is launched by the government
School bullying is a real scourge that affects many children and adolescents in France. Faced with this massive phenomenon, the government has decided to take concrete measures to combat this problem. The Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, launched a general mobilization, affirming that she wanted to lead a relentless fight against harassment.
The interministerial plan presented by Élisabeth Borne includes several measures to combat school bullying. First of all, the government wants to set up a single reporting number, 3018, which will be accompanied by a dedicated application. Currently, there are two numbers, 3020 for families and victims, and 3018 specifically for cyberharassment. Simplifying this system will make it easier to report cases of harassment and to intervene quickly.
One of the key measures of the plan is also the training of stakeholders in the educational community in the fight against harassment. By the end of the five-year term, all educational staff will be trained to better identify the signs of harassment and act appropriately. This training will not only be limited to the school environment, but will also extend to adults working with minors in other contexts, such as sport or summer camps.
The government also wants to strengthen sanctions against harassing students by increasing the confiscation of phones and allowing their exclusion from social networks. It is important to put in place preventive measures, but also dissuasive sanctions to make perpetrators of harassment understand that their actions will not be tolerated.
Finally, the plan provides for the implementation of empathy courses in the school curriculum from the start of the 2024 school year. This initiative is inspired in particular by the Danish model, where empathy courses are already integrated into teaching. The idea is to instill social and emotional skills in students that will enable them to create a respectful and caring environment.
The fight against school bullying requires everyone to mobilize to protect our children and adolescents. The interministerial plan presented by Élisabeth Borne marks a real desire on the part of the government to take concrete and effective measures to put an end to this scourge. Hopefully these actions will create schools where every student feels safe and respected.
