Morocco to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a major victory for the country and a step closer to the 2030 World Cup

Morocco will host the 2025 African Cup of Nations (CAN), following the withdrawal of its competitors, including Algeria, according to the announcement by the president of the African Football Confederation, Patrice Motsepe. This decision follows a series of applications and presentations from the different countries claiming to organize this prestigious competition.

This announcement constitutes a great victory for Morocco, which had already organized the CAN in 1988 and had initially been designated for the 2015 edition before having this allocation withdrawn. The country had also requested a postponement due to the Ebola epidemic, which resulted in its disqualification from the competition by CAF.

The choice of Morocco as host country for CAN 2025 is recognition of its expertise and its capabilities to organize a sporting event of such scale. This decision also supports the joint bid of Morocco, Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup.

The other competing countries, such as Algeria, Zambia and the joint candidacy of Nigeria and Benin, announced their withdrawal from the race to organize the CAN 2025, thus showing their support for the Moroccan candidacy for the Cup of the world 2030.

This designation is a real honor for Morocco, which thus sees its reputation strengthened on the African sporting scene. The Atlas Lions, the Moroccan national team, also played an important role in this victory, achieving a historic run at the 2022 World Cup and arousing the pride of an entire country.

In addition to confirming Morocco as a destination of choice for hosting international sporting events, the organization of CAN 2025 will have a significant economic impact on the country. Indeed, this event will attract thousands of supporters and visitors from all over the world, which will generate significant economic benefits for the tourism, hotel and catering sector.

In conclusion, Morocco has won the right to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, thus confirming its position as a leading sporting destination in Africa. This victory also strengthens its bid to host the 2030 World Cup, which could mark a new stage in the development of sport in Morocco and the region.
