Women’s CAN 2024 (Q): the DRC takes an option for qualification by beating Benin

The DRC got off to a good start in the Morocco 2024 Women’s CAN qualifiers. In their first match, the Leopards Ladies managed to achieve an important victory against the Amazons of Benin. Despite a mixed score of 2-1, the Congolese women took an option for qualification, but will have to confirm during the return match in Cotonou.

From the start of the match, the DRC showed its determination by opening the score in the 18th minute thanks to Falonne Pambani. This lead foreshadowed an easy encounter for Marcelo Kadiamba’s daughters. However, the Leopards ladies made some technical errors in midfield, which allowed the Beninese to come back into the game in the 36th minute thanks to Yolande Gnamni.

In the second half, the Congolese team was able to transform and increase the score in the 55th minute thanks to Naomie Kaba Kaba. Despite this victory, the fact of only having a one-goal lead leaves a lot of hope for the opposing team before the return match.

The DRC will therefore have to remain vigilant during the return leg in Cotonou in order to confirm its qualification for the Morocco 2024 women’s CAN. This victory is encouraging, but requires a solid and collective performance from the Leopards ladies.

In conclusion, the DRC took an option for qualification by winning its first match of the 2024 women’s CAN qualifiers. Let’s hope that the team can maintain this dynamic during the return match and thus continue its journey towards the continental competition.
