“Homophobic chants at the PSG-OM match: the government calls for sanctions and firm action from PSG”

The homophobic chants heard during the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille sparked heated controversy, pushing the government to call for sanctions. The interministerial delegate for the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and anti-LGBT hatred (Dilcrah), Olivier Klein, expressed his indignation at this unacceptable behavior. He announced that he would contact PSG and the Professional Football League (LFP) so that measures could be taken. At the same time, the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, called on the Parisian club to file a complaint to identify the authors of the chants and bring them to justice.

The incident occurred in the Auteuil corner of the Parc des Princes, where PSG supporters sang homophobic chants targeting OM players. These chants lasted almost a quarter of an hour, demonstrating an unacceptable level of hostility.

Faced with this situation, PSG quickly reacted by firmly condemning this discriminatory behavior. The club says all forms of discrimination, including homophobia, have no place in stadiums and in society. PSG is committed to strengthening its prevention actions and says it is ready to collaborate with its partners to fight against this scourge.

The Minister of Sports, for her part, recalls that it is unthinkable to remain deaf to such hateful and homophobic chants in the stands. She insists on the need to eradicate this behavior from the stadiums and calls for firm action from the LFP disciplinary committee. She also encourages PSG to file a complaint in order to prosecute those responsible for these chants.

This case rekindles the debate on homophobia in sport and the need to put in place effective measures to combat this type of discrimination. A survey carried out by the LGBT+ Sports Federation in collaboration with Ipsos reveals that almost half of French people have already witnessed homophobic or transphobic behavior in the sporting environment. It is therefore essential to take concrete measures to promote inclusiveness and diversity in sport.

In conclusion, the homophobic chants during the PSG-OM match sparked a strong reaction from the government and sports authorities. It is essential to firmly condemn this discriminatory behavior and put in place appropriate sanctions. Sport must be a space of respect, inclusiveness and tolerance for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation.
