“DRC: The United States accuses the FARDC and Rwanda of supporting rebel groups, a worrying situation for the stability of the region”

The United States of America recently expressed concern about the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). At a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, the US ambassador to the UN stressed the importance of ending alleged support for negative forces operating in the east of the country. This concern particularly concerns the links between the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) and rebel groups such as the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) and the M23.

The United States calls on the FARDC to cease its collaboration with the FDLR, while urging the Rwandan government to end its alleged support for the M23 rebels. These calls follow the publication of a report by UN experts highlighting new evidence of Kigali’s support for the M23. This rebel group continues to control territories in North Kivu province, confirming previous allegations.

Relations between the United States and Rwanda have also been impacted by these developments. Washington recently included Rwanda on its list of countries using child soldiers. United Nations investigators noted an increase in recruitment of young fighters by the M23 in July. Recruits are often lured by false job promises. These recruitments were supervised by Colonel Kanyamibwa during military training in Tshanzu and Runyoni.

This situation concerns the international community, and a meeting of the United Nations Security Council was held to discuss these developments. It is essential to find solutions to end the support of negative forces and to promote stability and security in the DRC.

In conclusion, the United States’ concern about the security situation in the DRC highlights the links between the FARDC, the FDLR and the M23. Rwanda’s alleged support for the rebels has been criticized, and Washington has included the country on its list of countries using child soldiers. It is necessary to find solutions to put an end to this situation, in order to ensure stability and security in the region.
