“Victory for Hollywood screenwriters: strike comes to an end with a new agreement! What consequences for the entertainment industry?”

Are you a film and television enthusiast? Have you ever imagined the thrilling storylines behind your favorite films and series? If the answer is yes, you’ll be happy to know that Hollywood screenwriters, after nearly five months on strike, are about to return to work thanks to a new agreement reached with the studios.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA), Hollywood’s screenwriters’ union, recently announced that it had reached an agreement in principle with the studios on a new minimum base agreement for 2023. Although the precise details of the agreement are not known still known, the WGA says it carries significant benefits for screenwriters, providing both better pay and better protection across all sectors of the industry.

The screenwriters’ strike began in May, with thousands of professionals on strike to demand better working conditions. Among their demands were higher wages taking into account inflation, fairer rewards for creative success and protections against the use of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry. Indeed, screenwriters feared that AI could be used to produce scripts, thereby reducing their role and their remuneration.

The WGA stressed that this agreement was exceptional and was made possible thanks to the solidarity and unconditional support of its members. The screenwriters, however, remain on strike until express authorization from the union to return to work.

Despite this good news for the screenwriters, the actors’ strike, which joined that of the screenwriters in July, continues. The actors’ union (SAG-AFTRA) has not resumed negotiations with the studios since mid-July. However, with the actors’ and writers’ demands being similar, it is possible that an agreement with the writers could pave the way for a resolution to the actors’ strike.

In conclusion, the impending agreement between the WGA and the studios represents a significant victory for Hollywood screenwriters. It demonstrates the importance of solidarity and support within the entertainment industry sector. However, the situation of the actors remains unresolved, and future developments will need to be closely monitored. Who knows, maybe we will soon be able to enjoy exciting new films and series thanks to the resumption of work of screenwriters and actors in Hollywood.
