The representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Angèle Dikongué Atangana, visited the village of Kapinga Nkundi, located 60 km from Tshikapa (province). Kasai), in order to meet the returnees from Angola who are settled there. UNHCR has set up shelters and infrastructure aimed at promoting their integration into the community.
On an area of 2,500 hectares developed over the past two years, UNHCR has built 240 shelters to accommodate returnees from Angola. As part of the villagization, other infrastructure such as a school were put in place to meet the needs of the people present on the site.
During her visit, Angèle Dikongué Atangana inaugurated a health post, with the aim of ensuring quality health coverage for residents of the village. This action was welcomed by the interim governor of Kasai province, Gaston Nkole, who highlighted the positive impact of UNHCR for families returned from Angola.
Furthermore, a water borehole was also inaugurated during this visit. This initiative aims to provide access to drinking water for village residents, thus improving their living conditions.
