The National Rejoin March in London: the growing voice for the United Kingdom’s return to the European Union

Are you ready to take a dive into the hot news? Today we are going to talk about the “National Rejoin March”, a demonstration which took place in London this weekend and which brought together thousands of British people in favor of the United Kingdom’s return to the European Union.

This demonstration, which took place in front of Parliament in London, was a real demonstration of the growing opposition to Brexit. Protesters flocked to Parliament Square, waving European flags and signs calling for people to join the EU. On a giant screen, we could read the strong slogan: “We want our star back”. The mood was both furious and hopeful.

Among the demonstrators, Rachel Ashley, a local activist for EU reintegration, expressed her anger towards the media which she accused of selling “outrage pornography” by supporting Brexit. She even says she knows people who voted for Brexit in 2016 and who are now “genuinely mortified” and “ashamed” of their choice. According to her, more and more Britons realize that Brexit has failed, and she hopes that a politician will eventually “falter” and pave the way for a return to the EU.

This demonstration also gave voice to other voices, those of retirees and young people who feel betrayed by Brexit. Frances Smith, a 68-year-old retiree, expresses her anger by saying that she and her children and grandchildren are being deprived of their European identity. She sees Brexit as a foolish decision that harms the British economy and endangers the future of young people.

A YouGov poll carried out last August revealed that more than 60% of Britons consider Brexit a failure. However, a majority (59%) are opposed to holding a referendum this year, but almost half (46%) would favor a new vote in 10 years.

The hope of a return to the EU is not only carried by the demonstrators, but also finds echo among young people. Elowenn Tuhill, a 19-year-old student, believes that young people should have a say in this essential issue. She is optimistic about the possibility of holding a new vote, taking into account the knowledge gained since the 2016 referendum.

In conclusion, the “National Rejoin March” in London demonstrates an increasingly strong movement in favor of the United Kingdom’s return to the European Union. Protesters are expressing their anger and disillusionment over Brexit, saying the decision to leave the EU was a mistake. As the debate over the future of the United Kingdom continues, only time will tell whether the country will one day join the European Union or not.
