Conference on Land Policies in Africa: a key event for sustainable land governance

The African Center for Land Policy (CLPA) is organizing the fifth edition of the Africa Land Policy Conference, which will be held from 21 to 24 November 2023 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Under the theme “Promoting sustainable land governance in Africa to accelerate the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area”, this conference aims to strengthen land policies in Africa by promoting better access to knowledge and information.

The conference, which will take place both online and in-person, will bring together experts from government, academia, research, traditional authorities and other non-state actors, the private sector and development partners. The overall objective of this event is to deepen engagement and build capacity on land policies in Africa, in order to support the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The AfCFTA, launched by the African Union, aims to create a common market for goods and services in Africa, thereby promoting trade and regional integration. The Africa Land Policy Conference plays a key role in accelerating the implementation of the AfCFTA by strengthening land governance and facilitating the development of evidence-based land policies.

During this event, several sub-themes will be discussed, such as best practices in developing land policies to improve cross-border trade in Africa, establishing inclusive and transparent land governance practices, efficiency land administration institutions, as well as monitoring and evaluation of effective land policies.

This conference is a unique opportunity to bring together key stakeholders and promote the sharing of knowledge and experiences in land governance in Africa. By strengthening land policies, the objective is to create an environment conducive to investment, legal security of land and the protection of land rights of local communities.

In conclusion, the Africa Land Policy Conference is an essential initiative to promote sustainable land governance on the continent. With a focus on accelerating the implementation of the AfCFTA, this event will contribute to strengthening cross-border trade, regional integration and economic development in Africa. This is a valuable opportunity for relevant stakeholders to share knowledge and collaborate to promote responsible and responsive land policies.
