“The financial agony of the Tshinkunku Club of Kananga: a race against time for its survival in competition”

The Tshinkunku Club of Kananga facing financial difficulties

Since the start of the 2023-2024 sports season, the Tshinkunku Club of Kananga, once famous and proud representative of Kasaï-Central, has been going through an unprecedented financial crisis. In fact, the club finds itself unable to pay the League entry fees, thus jeopardizing its participation in the competition.

According to information collected, the governor of Kasai-Central, John Kabeya Shikayi, intervened urgently to resolve this delicate situation. An envelope of 4,000 dollars was given to the team secretary to cover the commitment costs. In addition, the governor promised to ensure travel documents for the group currently stuck in Kinshasa.

Faced with the impossibility of playing at the Katoko Youth Stadium which is not approved by FECOFA, the club committee had to find an alternative solution by settling in Lubumbashi for its home matches. This precarious situation has also led to a boycott of certain training sessions by the players, who doubt the club’s participation this season in Linafoot.

Tshinkunku’s financial difficulties are compounded by the absence of club president Alexis Kayembe, who is abroad for health reasons. The vice-president, Berly Beya, spent more than ten thousand dollars out of his own pocket to keep the club afloat. However, he expressed his weariness and appealed to the other members of the committee to financially support the club.

Returning to the first division after a season in Ligue 2, Tshinkunku seems to be facing intractable internal problems. With the new Linafoot regulations, the club risks having to play for its survival both on and off the pitch. The next match against TP Mazembe will be crucial for the future of the club.

Club Tshinkunku is therefore going through a period of financial insecurity which is jeopardizing its participation in the competition. Calls for help are being launched to supporters and benefactors to save the Kananga club from this crisis. Hopefully these calls will be heeded and Tshinkunku can return to its former glory.
