Women candidates for elections supported by the RTNC, AFEM recommendation
The Association of Media Women (AFEM) recently issued an important recommendation to the public television channel, RTNC, in view of the upcoming elections. During a press conference in Bukavu, the president of the AFEM Board of Directors, Caddy Adzuba, stressed the importance of supporting women candidates throughout this electoral period.
In a context where women’s participation in the electoral process is in decline, AFEM wishes to raise awareness and support women in their political role. As an organization focused on gender and female leadership, AFEM is doing everything it can to raise awareness among women and encourage them to take their place in these elections.
Caddy Adzuba also highlighted the challenges women candidates face due to the electoral system in place. It is crucial to consider these obstacles and put in place measures to guarantee equal opportunities for women engaged in politics.
This recommendation from AFEM comes as an extension of the association’s efforts to promote women’s rights and fight against gender-based violence. In December 2022, AFEM organized an awareness campaign in Bukavu on the impact of domestic violence. Thus, this new initiative aims to strengthen the political participation of women and guarantee their equitable representation in decision-making spheres.
Support for women candidates in elections by RTNC would be a significant step towards a more inclusive democracy and better representation of women in Congolese political life. By actively supporting committed women, RTNC could play a key role in promoting gender equality and consolidating democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It is essential that all actors in society, including the media, commit to encouraging the political participation of women and creating an environment conducive to their development in the political field. Women candidates need support and visibility to succeed in overcoming their own obstacles.
In conclusion, AFEM’s recommendation to the RTNC is an essential call to guarantee equitable representation of women in future elections. By implementing concrete support measures, the RTNC can actively contribute to the political inclusion of women and the construction of a more egalitarian society in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
