“Humanitarian aid convoy in Nagorno-Karabakh: a step towards reconstruction after the conflict”

Azerbaijan continues to consolidate its control over Nagorno-Karabakh following its rapid and successful offensive against Armenian separatist forces. As part of this demilitarization operation, the International Red Cross succeeded in delivering humanitarian aid to populations trapped in the region.

The entry of a first international aid convoy on Saturday was a relief for the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh. This region, which was the scene of violent clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia, suffered heavy human and material losses. The humanitarian aid, mainly consisting of 70 tonnes of provisions, was transported through the Lachin corridor thanks to the intervention of the International Red Cross.

At the same time, Azerbaijan announced a demilitarization of Armenian separatist forces in collaboration with Russia. This initiative aims to restore order and security in the region. Hundreds of weapons seized from separatists were presented to the media during a visit organized by Azerbaijan. Images of these weapons, along with tanks marked with a white cross, were a powerful testament to Azerbaijan’s newfound authority over Nagorno-Karabakh.

However, this situation remains worrying for Armenia which fears ethnic cleansing in the region. The Armenian government called for the immediate dispatch of a United Nations mission to assess human rights and the humanitarian and security situation. The United States also expressed concern for the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh during a phone call between the U.S. Secretary of State and the Armenian Prime Minister.

As demilitarization operations continue and humanitarian aid flows into the region, many challenges remain. It is essential that the international community continues to closely monitor the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.
