Article: “The strong speech of President Félix Tshisekedi before the UN: The Congolese support the end of MONUSCO”
The speech by the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, at the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations, sparked strong reactions within the political party League for Emergence and Democracy. The President of the party, Guy-Didier Kintambu, welcomed this speech which represents “the will of the Congolese, in particular the Congolese youth, who demonstrated to demand the departure of the UN force without delay.”
According to Guy-Didier Kintambu, the youth of North Kivu showed the whole world the limits of MONUSCO and demanded its departure. This peacekeeping force has demonstrated its inability to fulfill its mandate and its record is mixed after more than two decades of presence in the DRC. The withdrawal of MONUSCO will open a new stage for the security of the Congolese populations.
The President of the League for Emergence and Democracy also appreciates the efforts and reforms undertaken within the Congolese army, which led to the rise in power of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC). He underlines the importance of the law on military programming which will allow the government to correct and revitalize the army, as well as to plan its recruitment, training and equipment activities. This law even provides for a special account dedicated to the army outside the general budget.
The League for Emergence and Democracy is convinced that the rise in power of the FARDC will make it possible to confront any rebel or terrorist threat targeting the integrity of the country.
With this strong speech before the UN, President Félix Tshisekedi shows his determination to meet the expectations of the Congolese people in terms of security and sovereignty. The end of MONUSCO and the reform of the army are priorities to consolidate the progress made and ensure the protection of the populations.
The path towards an emerging and democratic Congo has been traced, and it is thanks to leaders like Félix Tshisekedi and committed parties like the League for Emergence and Democracy that the country will be able to progress towards a better future.
