“Disappointment transformed into joy: the unexpected discovery of their success by unsuccessful candidates for the state exam in the DRC”

Scenes of joy were seen on Friday September 22 in several towns in the DRC, after unsuccessful candidates for the 2022-2023 state exam discovered that they had actually passed. An unexpected celebration for some, while others are still waiting for official confirmation of the results.

In Bunia, secondary school finalists who thought they had failed were pleasantly surprised when they learned of their success. This situation also occurred in Goma and Kinshasa, where several unsuccessful candidates discovered that they had obtained their diploma.

This news brings joy to many schools which had recorded a high failure rate. According to the provincial deputy of North Kivu, Jean-Paul Lumbulumbu, the success rate increased from 33% to 87% after this second correction of the state exam tests. This revision of the results was welcomed by many parents, finalists and teachers.

However, the Ministry of Primary, Secondary and Technical Education (EPST) made it clear that there had been no new correction or drafting of candidates. The results published are only a reflection of the actual results obtained by the students during the first correction of the exam. Any confusion in accessing the results could be due to the incorrect use of access codes via telecommunications networks.

This situation represents a positive turning point for many students who had already considered the possibility of having to repeat a school year. This also raises questions about the process of correction and publication of state exam results in the DRC.

In conclusion, the scenes of joy observed in several cities of the DRC, following the discovery of their success by unsuccessful candidates of the state exam, highlight the importance of transparency and accuracy in the student evaluation process. It remains to be hoped that this situation will serve as a lesson and will help improve the education system in the country.
