Unifying Campaign for Gender Equality in Africa: Results Disclosed at Major OPDAD Conference

Results of the unifying campaign for gender equality in Africa

The Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OPDAD) recently reviewed the results of the unifying campaign for gender equality in Africa. Under the theme “We are all equal: Closing the gender gap in Africa”, this campaign brought together First Ladies from different African countries to discuss actions taken in their respective countries in terms of education, maternal health and children, the economic empowerment of women, the fight against gender-based violence, and the promotion of female leadership.

During this conference, Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, First Lady of the Democratic Republic of Congo and vice-president of OPDAD, recalled the 10 commitments made by African First Ladies to bridge the gender gap in Africa. She stressed the importance of not sacrificing these commitments through inaction, because future generations will judge us by our present actions.

A notable guest of honor at this event was Jill Biden, First Lady of the United States of America. Her presence testifies to her commitment alongside African First Ladies in the fight against all forms of discrimination against women.

The unifying campaign, which ended recently, was reviewed at this conference, and new perspectives were considered to continue promoting gender equality in Africa. This campaign was implemented in several African countries with the aim of improving the well-being of the continent and creating more just and egalitarian societies.

OPDAD therefore continues to play a vital role in promoting gender equality in Africa, and African First Ladies are committed to continuing their actions to bridge the gender gap in their respective countries. Collaboration and collective responsibility are the key words of this dynamic, in order to build a better future for all, where gender equality will be a tangible reality.
