Return in force: Congolese armed forces regain control of Mushaki in Masisi territory

News: Armed forces regain control of Mushaki in Masisi territory

Since the start of the M23 war, the territory of Masisi was in the hands of terrorists, putting the Congolese armed forces in a retreat position. However, the situation has recently evolved with the arrival of the regional force of the East African Community (EAC) and the occupation of the area by Burundian contingents.

In this context, the new governor of North Kivu and head of military operations of the FARDC, Major General Peter Cirimwami, visited Mushaki this Friday, September 22. During his visit, he announced the return of the Congolese armed forces alongside the Burundian contingent of the EAC regional force. He also reiterated the message of the Head of State not to open a door for negotiation with the M23.

Major General Peter Cirimwami stressed the importance of collaboration between the civilian population and the military forces to eradicate the enemy from Congolese territory.

At the same time, clashes were reported between the self-defense youth movement collective and M23 terrorists, notably in Muhongozi and Busumba, on the border of Masisi and Rutshuru territories. The M23 terrorists, supported by Rwanda, are seeking to gain the support of the population by increasing the number of meetings in the region.

However, the Congolese authorities remain firm against the M23, affirming that they will not cede any entity already conquered and that they will not lay down their arms without a direct dialogue with Kinshasa.

This development in the situation in Mushaki marks a major step forward in the fight against the M23 and recalls the importance of cooperation between the armed forces and the civilian population to ensure the security of the Congolese territory. The fight against terrorist groups remains essential to guarantee the stability and development of the region.
