The political party Ensemble pour la République of Moïse Katumbi recently launched a civic and electoral education campaign entitled “Marathon towards victory”. The initiative aims to raise awareness among the Congolese population of the importance of a useful vote to provide the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with solid institutions capable of driving the long-awaited change.
This event comes just 90 days before the national presidential and legislative elections, making this campaign a crucial initiative to inform and educate voters on democratic issues.
Moïse Katumbi’s party also highlights the worrying situation of the state of siege in certain regions of the DRC. According to Gratien Iracan, executive of the Ensemble pour la République party and national deputy, maintaining the state of siege could be seen as a strategy aimed at excluding the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri from the electoral process, thus considerably reducing the electorate in the east of the country.
In addition to this, he also requests the urgent summons of the Prime Minister before the National Assembly to respond to his questioning on the “Goma massacre” perpetrated by the police on August 30. This request underlines the importance of security issues and respect for human rights in the electoral context.
With this educational campaign and the concerns raised by Moïse Katumbi’s party, it is clear that the political future of the DRC is at the heart of the debates. The Congolese people must be informed and educated on the issues at stake in these elections to be able to make informed decisions and actively participate in the construction of solid democratic institutions. It is essential to guarantee a transparent, inclusive and peaceful electoral process in order to achieve the long-awaited real change.
