The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) has just made public the final list of candidates for the national legislative elections which will be held in December 2023. This announcement follows the appeals filed with the Constitutional Court following the publication of the list provisional nominations.
Of the 252 applications filed, 141 were deemed admissible and well-founded, 43 were deemed admissible but unfounded, and 68 were deemed inadmissible. Consequently, the CENI took note of the decisions of the Constitutional Court and published the final list of candidates for the election of national deputies.
Among the political parties and groups that have reached the admissibility threshold, we find the Alliance of Congolese for the Renaissance (ACRN), Love of Neighbors and the Congo Homeland (APPC), Front Patriote 2023 (FP) and the New Conscious Generation (NOGECO).
This final list of candidates is available on the CENI website as well as at the branches within the jurisdiction of each electoral constituency. The electoral campaign is scheduled from November 19 to December 18, 2023, in accordance with the electoral calendar.
This publication of the final list of candidates marks an important step in the current electoral process. All eyes are now turning to the electoral campaign which promises to be lively and rich in debates. Voters will thus have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the different candidates and their programs before making their choice during the ballot.
However, it should be noted that the examination of the applications took longer than expected due to the high number of applications and the resulting litigation. The CENI nevertheless assured that this delay will not have a negative impact on the electoral calendar.
It will be interesting to closely follow the developments of these national legislative elections and analyze the impact they will have on political life and the parliamentary landscape of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The choice of voters will be decisive for the future of the country and the democratic representation of its population.
