“COMICO launches an appeal for peace and tolerance to restore harmony in the Beni region”

The Islamic Community in Congo (COMICO) calls for peace and tolerance

On September 21 each year, the International Day of Peace is celebrated. This year, the Islamic Community in Congo (COMICO) chose this opportunity to launch an appeal for the culture of peace and tolerance between communities.

Faced with the tense situation in the Beni region, where some equate Muslims with ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) rebels, COMICO would like to point out that Islam advocates peace. Yusufu Djodjo Sangala, public relations officer for the Islamic region of Beni, declares that “Islam is synonymous with peace, which means good manners, the spirit of sharing and communing with all communities.”

It is essential, according to him, that all the religious and social communities of Beni work together to restore peace. “We must avoid a climate of distrust in order to give ourselves the chance to build peace. Without peace in the region, we cannot pray, celebrate or carry out our activities,” he insists.

COMICO’s appeal is of great importance in a society where intercommunity tensions are frequent. It underlines the need to live together in harmony, overcoming religious and cultural differences.

Peace is a precious good that requires the efforts of all actors in society. It is essential to promote dialogue, mutual understanding and respect for different beliefs and values.

Religion must be a driving force for peace. It must remind us that we are all members of the same human family and that we share a common responsibility to build a better world.

In conclusion, COMICO calls for a culture of peace and tolerance between communities. It is necessary to overcome divisions and work together to restore and maintain peace in the Beni region.
