Start of work for the construction of the Bukavu-Nyamukubi road
The fulfillment of the promise made by the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, to modernize and maintain the national road between Bukavu and Nyamukubi is finally underway. This road, which also includes the Bukavu-Goma axis and some lanes of the N2 national road, totaling a distance of 117 km, has been in an advanced state of disrepair for several years. Users are forced to use it at their own risk, which has led many travelers to opt to pass through Rwanda to get to Uvira and the southeastern part of South Kivu.
The Head of Mission of the President of the Republic, Pacifique Kahasha, announced the start of the work in a recent statement. This initiative is part of the country’s road infrastructure modernization program, aimed at improving connectivity between different regions and facilitating the movement of people and goods.
The construction of this road is of strategic importance for the sovereignty of the country. It will strengthen trade and economic development in the region. In addition, it will help improve road safety by providing safer driving conditions for road users.
This project is the result of financing granted by the African Development Fund (FAD) and the Congolese government. In July 2022, the government received a grant of UA 36,670,000 and a loan of UA 33,330,000 to finance phase 1 of the development and asphalting project for national road No. 2. This first phase concerns the section between Bukavu and Nyamukubi, with a length of 85 km.
The ongoing work represents a strong commitment by the Congolese government to improve road infrastructure and meet the travel needs of the population. The Bukavu-Nyamukubi road will soon be a reality and will contribute to the growth and development of the region.
