“Call to mining operators in the DRC: Respect insurance laws for sustainable economic growth”

Mining operators in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are urged to respect the insurance laws in force in the country, according to the director general of the Insurance Regulatory and Control Authority (ARCA), Alain Kaninda. During a high-level panel at the Forum Katanga Business Meeting in Lubumbashi, Kaninda highlighted the ban on obtaining insurance abroad and highlighted the crucial role of insurance in securing local and international investments.

The insurance sector plays an essential role in financing the economy, and it is constantly growing in the DRC. Kaninda reminded economic operators of their duty to respect the law and contribute to the economic development of the country. As a regulator, ARCA is responsible for promoting the Insurance Code and ensuring its compliance through controls and sanctions in the event of violation.

This invitation to respect insurance laws aims to strengthen the compliance of mining operators and promote a safe and stable economic environment. By insuring themselves in the DRC, operators contribute to the protection of their investments and the economic growth of the country. It is therefore essential that all players in the mining sector respect the requirements of the Insurance Code in order to ensure lasting stability and confidence.

Checking the insurance of imported goods is also a priority for ARCA. A memorandum of understanding was signed between ARCA and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DGDA) to ensure compliance with insurance rules for all imported goods. This measure helps to strengthen security and transparency in international trade.

In conclusion, compliance with insurance laws in the DRC is a priority to guarantee the stability and economic growth of the country. Mining operators have a key role to play by respecting the requirements of the Insurance Code and by obtaining local insurance. ARCA will ensure the implementation of these rules and will not hesitate to take control and sanction measures in the event of a violation.
